And the fight goes on . . .

My mom continues to fight the good fight, but stage IV renal carcinoma is very serious. Over the past two months we have had some highs and lows with Mom. During her six-week stay in the nursing and rehab facility she had some great days in her wheelchair, knocked out some impressive workouts, and enjoyed a very interesting roommate named Agnus. On Mother’s Day we brought a full on picnic to the facility with sandwiches, macaroni salad, and Mom’s dog Micki. During this period we also had several scary trips to the ER and a few long nights. As of now she is in a long-term hospital in Rancho Cucamonga. I’m happy to say that she doesn’t seem to be bothered by severe cramping in her legs any longer. Either the pain has subsided or the drugs are doing their job. She is consistently surrounded by dear friends, her adoring children, and the 5.66 grandchildren who love her dearly. She nearly completed a round of chemo but it was stopped a little short due to infection and her overall weakness.  She currently rests most of the day, tries to fight off infections, and still manages to laugh at my silliness. Today, her doctor recommended bringing in some non-hospital food. I was so happy to finally oblige her week long request for a bologna sandwich on white bread with a little mayonnaise. Anything for you Mom.
